June News - They Say Good Things Come to Those Who Wait

We are Opening!

I hope everyone is doing amazing! I am so excited that we have finally made it to this point. I have looked forward to seeing your faces for months and I am sure you are ready to come out and play with us again. We are going to do a soft opening this Friday, June 5th, 2020 - Sunday, June 7th, 2020 from 11am - 5pm. The plan is to see how this goes through the weekend and hopefully do the same the following weekend. Stay tuned for more information! There will be food for sale and of course our amazing award-winning wines. With Madera County not moving into Phase 3 of reopening just yet, wine can only be consumed at our winery if it is purchased TOGETHER with food. We will partner with fantastic local restaurants or food trucks and they will offer food that perfectly pairs with our wines. Feel free to bring lawn chairs or a blanket and have a picnic or enjoy our beautiful patio. We will be abiding by the laws set forth by CDC for sanitizing and social distancing and ask that you set an appointment to taste. Simply call (559) 822-2111. If you have not made an appointment when you arrive at the gate, just give us a call and we should be able to get you in, no problem. Please remember to wear a mask on arrival. Curbside wine pickups will also be available and you are able to purchase any wines for consumption off-site. Enough of the technical stuff: let’s talk about some great things going on at the winery. We just received news that we have placed Platinum and two Gold Medals for three of our new wines! 2018 Buoyant Chardonnay placed Platinum and got 94 Points, 2019 Fäsi Estate Malvasia Bianca and 2018 Buoyant Pinot Noir both earned Gold Medals and 90 Points at the San Diego Wine Challenge. So very exciting for us and our boutique winery! With these awards, it is time to release the 2018 Buoyant Chardonnay. It will retail for $30. I am so looking forward to our conversations and sharing great wine!

Cheers to the Future,

Winemaker's Update

Summer has come on with a vengeance and just like you, the vines are also not liking this heat! The 105-degree temperatures cause stress on the vines. This requires proper hydration and nutrients. A healthy vine endures various stress better than a weak vine. Thus, we are continuously monitoring the vines and soil for nutrients and moisture. One of the ways we do this is through tissue analysis. This is done by randomly taking leaf samples from the vineyard and having them analyzed. Notice the chart showing where we are deficient (several micro-nutrients) and in excess. These numbers help us to give the vines what they are needing.

In the vineyard, the vines are now complete with fruit set and the berries are sizing. We will now be able to estimate crop loads and will drop any excess fruit if needed. This helps us to keep the vine in balance and healthy, to insure good ripening and high-quality fruit.

In the cellar, I am excited to share that we have several rocking wines wanting to get into the bottle. The new Fäsi Crest Syrah in particular. This wine develops right out of the gate with notes of blackberries and spice. On the palate, there is an entry of dark berries and cocoa leading to a blueberry tea finish. They say good things come to those who wait. Next time we meet, ask me for a sneak peek.

Cheers,
